2023 Community Grants applications open Sept. 1

Got a great project? Get a great grant for parks and trails.

The Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation’s 2023 Community Grants program is now open, with applications due by 5 p.m. Oct. 1.

Grants of up to $3,000 are available for qualifying park and trail projects.

Community Grants are awarded to capital improvement projects that enhance our parks, trails and recreational opportunities. Since 1998, the Parks & Trails Foundation has awarded Community Grants totaling more than $879,000 supporting youth and adult park and recreation programs and facilities on Bainbridge Island.

Individuals or clubs that are not nonprofit organizations but want to apply must partner with Bainbridge Metro Parks on their project. Contact the Parks & Trails Foundation for assistance in presenting your project idea, at barb@biparksfoundation.org.

2022 Community Grants

The Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation awarded Community Grants totaling $17,000 to five park and recreation clubs and programs in 2022. Grants support youth and adult recreation through Friends of Bainbridge Roller Hockey Club, Battle Point Astronomical Association, Bainbridge Island Rowing, Friends of Bainbridge High School Sailing, and Bainbridge Metro Parks.

2022 Community Grant awards included:

Bainbridge Roller Hockey, $3,500 to purchase supplies to replace failing boards on Battle Point Hockey rink fence; Battle Point Astronomical Association, $3,500 to restore and improve the planetarium at Ed Richie Observatory with a new projector and rebuilding the dome; BHS Sailing Club, $3,500 to purchase Collegiate Flying Junior (FJ) sailboat for youth regattas; Bainbridge Island Rowing, $3,500 to support the purchase of a Quad (4-person) sculling racing shell, and Bainbridge Metro Parks, $3,5oo for Boot Brush project with interpretive signage for three park sites for education and to reduce spread of invasive weeds.Since 1998, the Parks & Trails Foundation has awarded Community Grants totaling more than $879,000 supporting  youth and adult park and recreation programs on Bainbridge Island.
