DESCRIPTION:The Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation’s 2026 Community Grants program opens Sept. 1\, with applications due by 5 p.m. Oct. 1. Grants of up to $3\,000 are available for qualifying park\, trail and recreation projects.  \nFind a link to the grant application portal at www.biparksfoundation.org/community-grants.  \nCommunity Grants are awarded to capital improvement projects that enhance our parks\, trails and recreational opportunities. Individuals or clubs that are not nonprofit organizations but want to apply must partner with Bainbridge Metro Parks or City of Bainbridge Island on their project.   \n\nCommunity Grants have funded dozens of user-inspired projects\, from the Eagledale Pottery Studio kiln to sculling oars for Bainbridge Island Rowing\, from youth gymnastics vault apparatus to water polo goals to ADA trail improvements to sand volleyball courts\, to many more. \nContact the Parks & Trails Foundation for assistance in presenting your project idea. Sustainable Bainbridge in partnership with the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation and other local nonprofits\, is organizing this event to help clean our 53 miles of shoreline and nearshore waterways. We can all make a difference for our environment and wildlife!\n\nSignup to volunteer today! Everyone can get involved\, whether it is supporting a team by entering data in the Ocean Conservancy CleanSwell app or picking up garbage along our shores andwaterways–and even along our roadsides.\n\nTake pictures and share your unusual debris and finds with us! SUMMARY:Lost Valley Trail public dedication
DESCRIPTION:The new Lost Valley Trail opens Oct. 1\, fulfilling a 30-year vision and completing the final link in Bainbridge Island's longest cross-island trail route.   \nThe public trail will be celebrated with a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Thursday\, Oct. 1\, hosted by the three project partners: the City of Bainbridge Island\, the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation\, and the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District.   \nThe mostly wooded\, mile-long Lost Valley Trail connects the Head of the Bay with Fletcher Bay Road\, across 40 acres of public open space. The trail includes 200 feet of boardwalk\, protecting the Cooper Creek watershed and ensuring all-season access.   \nThe Oct. 1 trail dedication event will be held at the boardwalk at the Head of the Bay (Wyatt Way/Eagle Harbor Drive) trailhead. There is no onsite parking for this event.
