SUMMARY:National Trails Day on Bainbridge Island
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate National Trails Day\, June 6\, with a hike on an island trail – and munch a bag of special Trail Mix\, courtesy of the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation.   \nMeet the Parks & Trails Foundation and get your Trail Mix at Gazzam Lake (Marshall Road trailhead)\, Fort Ward Park (boat launch trailhead) and Grand Forest East (Mandus Olson south) while supplies last.   \nSupport the Lost Valley Trail and boardwalk project with a gift while you’re there. Help meet our $10K Challenge Match on National Trails day\, with all gifts matched by Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island up to $10\,000 total.    \nLost Valley Trail will be the final link in a walkable\, cross-island route from downtown Bainbridge Island to Gazzam Lake Preserve. The trail will cross 33 acres of public open space between the Head of the Bay/Wyatt Way and Fletcher Bay Road. It will include 200 feet of elevated boardwalk to protect the Cooper Creek watershed and salmon stream.   \nThe Parks & Trails Foundation is fundraising to complete the trail and boardwalk in time for a fall opening\, in partnership with the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District and City of Bainbridge Island.   \nInformation: www.biparksfoundation.org/build-trails \n\n\nNew to our work? SUMMARY:Conservation Work Party – 8 Acre Woods
DESCRIPTION:Conservation Work Party \nWhere: 8 Acre Woods \nWhen: Saturday\, June 13 (2nd Saturday)\, 10:00a-12:00p \nWhat: Join us for the first-ever volunteer work parties at 8 Acre Woods. Throughout the summer\, we will work with the Rolling Bay community to enhance the native plant landscape through invasive\, non-native plant removal. Be sure to dress for the weather\, wear durable/long-sleeved attire (as we’ll be among blackberry!)\, bring a reusable water bottle (we’ll have water to share)\, and wear closed-toe shoes. \nThis work party will be best for those ages 8 and up\, who don’t mind tackling blackberry and navigate well on uneven terrain off trail. We hope to see you there! \nParking is limited – please carpool or bike/walk over if you can – extra spots available at Fieldstone Senior Living (10861 NE Manitou Park Blvd.) \nREGISTER HEREAbout 8 Acre Woods: 8 Acre Woods is Bainbridge Island’s newest natural park. The Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation facilitated the generous land gift from the conservation-minded property owner\, transforming the parcel into a new neighborhood park for all to enjoy. \nLocated in the Skiff Point neighborhood near Rolling Bay\, 8 Acre Woods fills a longtime gap in local park access\, serving a neighborhood where the nearest public park previously was more than a mile distant. \nNew to our work?
