Parks Foundation, BIJAEMA partner for Pritchard Park restoration, documentary film

March 30, 2022 marks the 80th anniversary of the forced exclusion of Bainbridge Island’s Japanese Americans for wartime incarceration.

To honor this milestone, the Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation and Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial Association are partnering on stewardship projects and a documentary film at the memorial site and Pritchard Park.

UPDATE: This campaign is now fully funded.

“The wartime exclusion and welcome return of the island’s Japanese American neighbors is a foundational story of our community,” said Mary Meier, Parks Foundation executive director. “This partnership is about healing both land and people, as we honor a uniquely Bainbridge Island story that resonates into the present day.”

Great food, great weather, a great evening at Picnic For Parks

Thanks to all who joined us at Picnic For Parks this past Saturday. What a wonderful summer evening for a picnic!

We packed the picnics, you picked the parks, and our special green baskets turned up in parks all across the island. We’re grateful for all of the compliments we’ve heard from our picnickers. It was a special evening for our parks, and a memorable one.

This great fundraiser helps the Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation accomplish all the great things we have going on in Bainbridge parks: Summer Trails Crew, the soon-to-open KidsUp! Playground, stewardship at Blakely Harbor, Moritani Preserve and so many others. Thank you again.

Founders Courts First Day of Play fundraiser

Founders Courts First Day of Play fundraiser

Celebrate the opening of the new pickleball center at Battle Point Park and be among the first to play at this amazing new facility at the Founders Courts Opening Day fundraiser.

Courts can be reserved by the hour for $200 for a foursome. Your court fee includes a special “I Played on Inaugural Day” T-shirt. It will be a festive atmosphere with music and fun, and we encourage you to bring a non-alcoholic beverage to toast the occasion with your group.

Reservations can be made in one-hour slots from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (play ends at 7 p.m.), with court rotations on the hour sharp. Court reservations are first come, first serve. Don’t wait — register your foursome today. (Reserve as many court slots as you like — let’s make this fundraiser a BIG success!)
