Puget Sound to Pacific RAISE Grant2023-11-06T09:56:02-08:00

Puget Sound to Pacific. Think about it for a moment. The peace and dramatic beauty of the Pacific Northwest captured in the Olympic Mountains, Puget Sound, the distant Cascades, Hood Canal, the Strait of Juan de Fuca with Vancouver Island on the horizon, Lake Crescent, and the sublime surf, beaches and haystack rocks at La Push. Now imagine walking or riding a bicycle from Puget Sound to the Pacific Coast. It’s not that far. There are picturesque small towns and interesting rural landscapes along the way. Half of your route is already connected with the Sound to Olympics Trail and the Olympic Discovery Trail.

Puget Sound to Pacific (PS2P) is this route. From the Washington State Ferries docks on Bainbridge Island, Kingston and Port Townsend to the Pacific Coast in La Push. Two hundred miles of multi-use trail and community connections. One hundred miles are complete after 35 years of hard work by advocates and local agencies that know the value of giving people a place to get outside.

That leaves only one hundred miles to build to fill the gaps, make the connections and improve safety to make PS2P all it can be for our communities.

The Puget Sound to Pacific Collaborative is an initiative of the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation, the North Kitsap Trails Association, and the Peninsula Trails Coalition. Our first step is to bring 13 agencies together to identify the work to be done, and seek the funds necessary to design the solutions. The PS2P application for federal transportation infrastructure funding was submitted in February 2023.
