SUMMER TRAILS CREW

YOU CAN GET THERE FROM HERE. ON A TRAIL.

Now 42 miles and growing, Bainbridge Island’s public trails network has emerged as a defining community asset, popular with islanders and visitors alike, and anyone seeking exercise, refreshment and solace in the outdoors.

Maintaining this extensive network – trimming trailside growth, grading and graveling pathways, replacing culverts and other necessary upkeep, while adding new trails and connections between parks and neighborhoods – is a time and labor-intensive task for the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District.

To support this essential work, the Summer Tails Crew program was established by the Parks Foundation in 2015. The season program provides critical labor hours to improve and expand the island’s trail system, while providing vigorous, meaningful seasonal employment and work experience for college students.

Any islander who likes to walk, run, exercise dogs, or ride bikes or horses on Bainbridge Island trails benefits from the work of the Summer Trails Crew. These trails provide direct and intimate access to a range of natural environments, ecologies and vistas – NW evergreen forests, open meadows and placid shorelines – offering outdoor experiences that are beneficial to physical and mental wellbeing.
