Bainbridge Island’s newest recreational trail, from Sunny Hill Trail to Nutes Pond, will be dedicated in a ceremony on Thursday, June 26.
A 3 p.m. ribbon cutting is planned, followed by self-guided hikes up to Nutes Pond. Please RSVP for the event at www.biparksfoundation.org.
The 0.35-mile trail connects the Sunny Hill Trail off Country Club Road, with Nutes Pond, a scenic 31-acre park on Toe Jam Hill. The ribbon cutting will be at the north trailhead, on the Sunny Hill Trail just east of Bolero Drive.
Please note: There is no event parking at Bolero Drive or Nutes Pond. A passenger shuttle from upper Fort Ward Hill Park will be provided, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Email heidi@biparksfoundation.org for directions and event information.
The trail was funded by the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation, with construction completed by the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District.
Sunny Hill to Nutes Pond is the second trail completed under the Parks Trails Foundation’s “Trails Connect Bainbridge Island” campaign. The Arbor Trail was dedicated in Februrary, connecting the Dolphin Drive and W. Port Madison neighborhoods.
The Foundation is now fundraising for the Lost Valley Trail, connecting the Head of the Bay with Fletcher Bay Road and nexus of a cross-island corridor from Winslow to Gazzam Lake.
