Join BI Metro Parks and the Parks & Trails Foundation for  the annual Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service.  From 10a-1p on Monday, Jan. 15, volunteers come together to make this day of service a “day on, not a day off.”

Conservation projects for all ages are planned, including planting native wildflowers, mulching young plants, and removing invasive species like ivy, spurge laurel, and blackberry.  Parks staff and knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to share knowledge about the park and its restoration and provide all the tools needed for the job.  Join us to work as long as you’re able and enjoy a hot drink to warm up!

Restoration at Blakely Harbor Park has involved thousands of volunteer hours, thousands of native plants, and years of dedicated hard work.  Once the site of the largest mill in the world Blakely Harbor is now a much beloved park, connecting to miles of trails and hosting beach access and a birding blind.  But restoration work is ongoing with young native plants to care for and plenty of invasive weeds yet to remove.
