Get involved in Bainbridge Island parks – there’s plenty of great volunteer activities through the month of July, hosted by the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District.

July 10 – Conservation Work Party

Where: Fay Bainbridge Park, 15446 Sunrise Dr NE, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110
When: Saturday, July 10 (2nd Saturday), 10-noon
What:  Help care for our woods, meadows, beaches and open space. At this month’s Conservation Work Party we’ll be working on removing invasive scotchbroom from the nearshore area of the beach at Fay Bainbridge Park.

July 13 – Red Pine Park Work Party

Where: Red Pine Park, 418 Wood Ave SW, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110
When: Tuesday, July 13 (2nd Tuesday), 10-noon
What:  Maintain garden beds, an historic fruit orchard, edible perennials, and other historic plantings in this former homestead in the heart of downtown.

July 21 – Hannah’s Garden Work Party

Where: Rotary Park (Owen’s Playground), 969 Weaver Road, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110
When: Wednesday, July 21 (3rd Wednesday), 10-noon
What:  Help care for Hannah’s Garden, a sensory garden full of pollinator species at Owen’s Playground.  Spend time pruning, weeding, and picking the wildflowers!  This is a particularly good work party for young children.

July 22 – Moritani Preserve Work Party

Where: Moritani Preserve, 542 Winslow Way W, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110
When: Thursday, July 22 (3rd Thursday), 10-noon
What:  Help care for the woods and meadows of Moritani Preserve, managing invasive species, maintaining garden beds, and planting native species when the weather is right.

July 24 – Trails Work Party

Where: Gazzam Lake Preserve, Deerpath Lane entrance
When: Saturday, July 24, 10-noon
What:  Help out as we move Gazzam Lake’s south trailhead to accommodate planned well drilling by KPUD.

A few more details…

What to bring: We suggest volunteers wear sturdy, close-toed shoes, long pants, and work gloves. Please also bring your own water bottle if you’d like one. The Park District will provide any (sanitized) tools volunteers will need, but feel free to bring your favorite.

COVID-19 Requirements/Modifications:

  • All participants must
    • Register for each individual work party
    • Respond to a COVID questionnaire prior to participating in the event
  • If proof of full vaccination is provided, masks are not required. Proof of vaccination is a vaccination card or photo of a vaccination card provided to Park District staff at the start of the event

Volunteers Under 18: All volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who can sign them into the event, or if not accompanied by an adult, they must bring a signed Parent Authorization Form with them.
