Our parks and trails deliver an astonishing range of physical and mental health benefits – and the science behind this nature-health connection has blossomed in recent years.

Join us as Dr. Howard Frumkin presents “Superpowers of Our Parks and Trails,” a dynamic presentation for families and parents at 7 p.m. April 25 at the Bainbridge High School Theater. The event is co-sponsored by the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation and Bainbridge Youth Services.

Learn about the link between parks and positive health outcomes for those who use and enjoy them regularly. Sample the latest research, consider what this means for family lifestyle choices and broader policies, and explore ideas to integrate parks and trails time into our busy lives.

The event is free, but preregistration is encouraged.

“Science tells us what we already sense to be true, that we’re healthier and happier when we immerse ourselves in the natural world through our parks and trails,” says Mary Meier, Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation executive director. “These amazing park resources are vital for community health, and they’re right outside our door inviting us to find connection and healing.”

A Bainbridge Island resident, Dr. Frumkin is senior vice president with the Trust for Public Land and Professor Emeritus of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Washington School of Public Health.

He is an internist, environmental and occupational medicine specialist and epidemiologist. His research interests include public health aspects of the built environment, climate change, energy policy and nature contact.
