Thanks to all who made it a Day On, not a Day Off for MLK Day at Blakely Harbor Park!

Our partners at Bainbridge Metro Parks report that 176 volunteers participated this year, contributing roughly 520 hours of work. Volunteers tugged about 3 cubic yards of invasive plants (blackberry, ivy, Scotch broom, and holly) from around the meadow and shoreline trails, and established 12 habitat piles for woodland creatures.

Did you know: Since 2014, the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation has granted more than $250,000 to support environmental restoration at this beautiful shoreline park. That’s funded dozens of volunteer work parties to root out invasive weeds; thousands of work hours by Student Conservation Corps, EarthCorps and ParksCorps; thousands of new NW native plants, bedded in tons of fresh, healthy mulch; and even some visits by a few hundred happy, hungry weed-munching goats.

Volunteer efforts like MLK Day of Service multiply the positive impacts so many times over – thank you so much!
