The Farm Trail
Bringing the community farm district closer to all
With its pumpkin patches, grape rows, seasonal farm stand and 40 acres of rolling farmland, Bainbridge Island’s Day Road agricultural district is one of the island’s most picturesque landscapes.
For years, it remained largely out of reach for pedestrians – until the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation helped bring closer public access by partnering on the creation of the new Farm Trail.
The half-mile trail traces the western edge of the district, connecting Day Road East to Lovgreen Road and offering walkers a direct view into the heart of the island’s farming heritage. The Foundation partnered with the City of Bainbridge Island and Bainbridge Metro Parks to bring the long-envisioned trail to life, securing easements and funding native plant restoration at trailside.
The trail was completed by the Park District Trails team and the Summer Trails Crew, a Foundation-supported work-learn program that puts college-age students into the field building and maintaining island trails.
Key trailheads were made possible by Grace Church and the Island School, whose contributions helped expand the trail network and improve connectivity. With trailheads now located at Day Road E., Lovgreen Road, Charles Place, and Vista Place, the Farm Trail nearly encircles the farm district, inviting the community to experience and engage with the land.
