KidsUp! The Next Generation of Play

Preserving and expanding the legacy of a beloved playground

The original KidsUp! Playground at Battle Point Park served a generation of Bainbridge Island families. But after years of joyful use, it was worn out and no longer met modern standards for safety or accessibility.

Recognizing the need for a revitalized space where all children could play, the Bainbridge Island Parks & Trails Foundation partnered with the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District to lead a three-year campaign to build a new, inclusive playground: KidsUp! The Next Generation of Play.

The new playground was visioned by community members and professional designers, and sets a new standard for welcoming children of all ages and abilities.

The new playground includes a giant, one-of-a-kind ferry-themed play structure — the M/V KidsUp! — and a host of imaginative features that honor Northwest stories and promote inclusive play. From wheelchair-accessible spinners and soft surfacing to climbable Orcas, musical gardens, and a winding Trike Track, every element was designed to welcome children of all abilities.

The playground preserves the spirit of the original KidsUp! by integrating its iconic castle towers and Northwest-inspired artworks into the new layout, creating a continuous pathway of exploration and fun.

Thanks to the vision and generosity of local parents, donors, sponsors and grantors, KidsUp! The Next Generation of Play is a model of community-driven innovation and inclusive design.
